Irrigation and Lighting FAQs
No two properties are the same, and the same can be said with irrigation and lighting installations. Simple repairs and adjustments can be done on an hourly basis plus parts. We have a one-hour minimum per service call. Pleasant Landscapes also offers senior technician at a higher rate, which may come in handy for more complex repairs or complete system redesigns, and is only charged if specifically requested by you, the client.
After the initial one-hour minimum, the final bill will be based on the exact labor time. For example; 75 minutes will be billed at 1.25 hrs of labor.
Our technicians are very busy in the field every day, which is why phone consultations are not available. You're welcome to speak to a supervisor that may be able to answer your questions, or you can schedule an appointment to meet with a technician onsite.
Irrigation repair demands are seasonal and we do our best to accommodate repair requests within 10-14 days. In the event your repair is more emergent, we also offer emergency repair rates at $195 per hour with a one-hour minimum. This ensures a technician will be at your home within 24 hours.
Your sprinkler system should be shut off and drained at the end of every season and before any major threat of a freeze. An irrigation turn on can be done after the last freeze of the year, but just in time for your plants and turf to begin coming out of dormancy. Both of these services and more are included in our annual sprinkler management program.
There are many factors that go into how often and how long an irrigation zone and system should run. Factors like time of year, weather, soil conditions, if a rain sensor is present, geographic location and plant or turf type are just some of the things to consider when setting each zone of your irrigation system. Our sprinkler management programs take the guess work out of it for you. Simply sign up and our team will take care of it. For more information on our Sprinkler Management program, click here.

Yes. Many modern irrigation controllers can be upgraded to Wi-Fi enabled systems, giving you control of watering schedules, run times, and zones directly from your phone.
That said, remote access does not replace routine system checks and adjustments. We recommend an in-person inspection about every 60 days to confirm proper coverage and performance. Adjusting heads, checking drip lines, and correcting alignment issues all require hands-on attention.
Smart technology adds convenience, but regular inspections protect the health of your landscape.

On average, 4-6 weeks from receiving your contract and deposit, your landscaping project will begin. An automated email will be sent to you the week before advising you of the start day.
Each week our sales team meets with our production team to discuss current and upcoming work. Your account manager has gone over all of the details of your project with the divisional supervisor and/or the installation team lead. Customer happiness is most important to our teams, not just beautifying your landscaping.
If your property has an irrigation system with automatic watering, resodding can be done anytime from early spring through late fall.
For properties without irrigation, early spring and fall are the best times. Cooler temperatures make it easier to establish new sod and reduce the risk of heat stress or inconsistent watering.
Consistent watering during the first few weeks is critical for successful establishment.
After every installation job, our trained irrigation technician will arrive at your property to assess, inspect and adjust your irrigation system to ensure your new landscape will be properly watered. More information and pricing of this service can be found in the terms and conditions of your contract. Discounted irrigation labor rates are available for our 'Sprinkler Management' customers.
All landscaping project balances are due upon completion.
New sod is susceptible to stressors until it has ample time to establish. This can include insect infestations, weather, drought, and weeds. That is why applying preventative weed control or pre-emergent to your new sod is not recommended. It will damage the sod root growth and even kill your new lawn. Give the new root system time to grow, absorb the water and fertilizer and become established. After your new lawn has been mowed between 3–4 times, a high-quality weed control product or post-emergent herbicide to spot-treat weeds in your new lawn is suggested. After 90-180 days or during the proper time of year, a pre-emergent is used to prevent weeds before they appear the next season. Some weeds in new sod is not uncommon, but with proper timing, can be prevented during the next season.

Both mulch and pine straw help control weeds, improve moisture retention and improve the look of your landscape.
Pine straw typically needs to be refreshed about every six months, while mulch lasts around 12 to 18 months. Over time, the cost is usually comparable.
The best choice depends on your preferred look and the needs of your property.
Mulch is suggested to be reinstalled every 12 months. Every 5 years or so, you may have excessive build up of mulch that hasn't decomposed and should be removed prior to fresh mulch being installed. Pine straw should be installed every 6 months. Since pine straw decomposes faster than mulch, removal of old pine straw may only be necessary every 7-10 years.
Hard pruning is typically done after the heat of summer, usually mid to late fall through winter. In some cases, early spring may also be appropriate.
Timing depends on the type of plant or tree. Proper scheduling supports healthy recovery and strong growth. Contact our team to determine the best timing for your property.
Crepe myrtle pruning is scheduled based on the proper seasonal window for plant health, along with our service route. Timing can vary depending on weather and workload. Contact our office to confirm your place in the schedule and your estimated service window.

Maintenance visits include more than mowing. Crews handle edging, bed care, debris removal, and property checks throughout the year.
Regular visits keep your landscape consistent, not just cut.
Different types of grass prefer different mowing heights. As a general rule of thumb, never cut more than the top third of the grass blade off. Much more than that could stress the grass and cause browning. The old myth that says the shorter your mow grass, the less often you'll have to cut it is exactly that, a myth.
